Best Vacuum for Pet Hair

We love our pets but sometimes I think that their primary purpose in life is to grow hair. Hair that sheds, sticks to the cushion of the sofa, collects in the corners and seems to be everywhere. And we have a few friends that are allergic to cats. So we started our search for the best vacuum for pet hair.

These are my reasons why I need the best vacuum for pet hair.

These are my reasons why I need the best vacuum for pet hair.

Cleaning hair from bare floors is easy. Just about any vacuum will do it, or a swipe with a Swiffer. The hair on carpets or furniture is another story. It sticks! Pet hair gets caught up in the fibers of our upholstery and carpets, and no amount of suction will get it out. It needs something more.

Vacuums with power brushes will pick up most pet hair, but unless its optimized for pets, they often leave some behind. The brushes don’t always lift the hair up for the suction to catch. Instead, they just sort of groom the hair, leaving it on the furniture but all lined up in one direction!

Vacuum manufacturers have taken note, and there are some models that are optimized for removing hair. These are the ones that we think are best.

Best Vacuum for Pet Hair

Dyson Cinetic Big Ball Animal Vacuum

I’m listing this Dyson first because it’s technology is a bit different than standard vacuums. Dyson claims to have invented cyclonic filtration. They may not have been the first, but they are probably the best. It argues that it won’t lose suction as it fills, and there are no filters to wash or replace.

It’s also one of the most powerful vacs on the market, but its strength on pet hair comes from its tools. There’s an upholstery tool hand brush that is easy to handle and tangle free. No more taking brushes apart to remove hair that gets wrapped around the shaft. And the floor brushes are self-adjusting, so they stay in proper contact with your carpets, and you always get good deep cleaning.

My big beef with vacuums is that, while they trap most of the dirt, some of the finest particles pass through. I end up sneezing and then dusting the furniture again. This Dyson has a HEPA filter that minimizes the problem and traps the little bits of animal dander that are too fine for the regular collector.

Features at a Glance:

  • Cord-free with up to 40 minutes of power
  • HEPA filter
  • Specially designed for pets

Pros:

  • Easy to use
  • Transforms to handheld
  • Easy clean, hygienic dirt ejector

Cons:

  • Dysons are generally more expensive than others.
  • Heavy

My Opinion:

The Dyson Cinetic Big Ball Animal Vacuum isn’t the only vacuum that handles pet hair well.  It’s just my favorite.  Dyson does everything well.

Hoover T Series comes in several forms.  Corded and cordless along with bagged and bagless.  All models share the same framework.  We’re reviewing the corded bagless model.

There have been a few minor changes over the years, but it’s a proven winner.  The Hoover T Series are continually near the top of most review charts. It’s solidly built, with a good repair record, and offers excellent performance at a reasonable price.

Hoover calls their system WindTunnel and Dual Cyclonic technology, fancy words for a powerful bagless suction that doesn’t weaken as the bin fills.  The primary filter is washable, and it’s backed up by a HEPA filter.

There are thousands of review posts about it on Amazon.  Buyers give it 4 out of 5 stars.  That’s a great rating.

Hoover patented the first upright vacuum over a hundred years ago, and they know how to do it right.  This Hoover T-Series WindTunnel is another example of why in Britain, vacuuming is called hoovering!

  • Long 27′ cord with rewind feature
  • 8-foot hose reaches most ceilings
  • HEPA filter
  • Specially designed for pets
